The course lasts 1 - 2 years, running from late August to late May, and gives you an introduction to different circus disciplines. Approximately 16-20 hours of circus classes are taught during the week. In addition to this, training locations are open for students to use each day. During the school year, two group performances are created, along with solos in your chosen circus discipline.
Fjordane Folkehøgskule considers itself a preparatory circus school, providing students with the tools to pursue higher education in circus. At the same time, the school year can be a great source of inspiration for the future—no matter if you seek a career in the performing arts or other fields.
Norwegian Folkehøgskule is a one-year, non-formal education focused on personal growth, community, and practical learning. Jan Kjetil Smørdal, the director of Circus Agora, opened the line in 1998 and 2016 Mathias Ramfelt and Martin Riedel initiated a new era for the department.
Various trips are included in the tuition throughout the school year, including a 1–2 week trip to Europe, surfing in Hoddevik, a coastal cleanup sailing trip, and numerous hikes in Vestland's world-famous nature.
