Creat. Formación y Creación en Artes Circenses

Preparatory school

FEDEC member since 2024

At CREAT, we emphasize contemporary circus as a multidisciplinary art form, drawing inspiration from dance, theater, contemporary dramaturgy, and new artistic languages.

CREAT. Formación y Creación en Artes Circenses is a center founded in 2020 in the city of Valencia, Spain, by a group of artists and sports trainers, including Pablo Meneu, Eleonora Gronchi, Melina Bemposta, Juan Catalán, and Roseta Plasencia. Having studied and developed their professional careers in the performing arts abroad, they decided to return to their homeland to advance circus arts in both educational and artistic spheres. Recognizing the deficiencies in the pre-pandemic Valencian circus sector, they initiated the CREAC project to develop circus as an artistic discipline, contribute to the professionalization of artists, and foster the growth of the community.

Training offered

CREAT off􀋞ers various lines of work, including 2 training programs following the official school calendar of the Valencian Community:

  • Professional Training Program: 3 levels/school years (1.1, 1.2, 2): a 2-3 year course (full-time) for students who wish to dedicate themselves intensively to circus arts to acquire the basic knowledge needed to enter the workforce as artists. The schedule is Monday to Friday, with approximately 35 hours per week, totaling around 1200 hours per year, from October to June. The course includes transversal subjects, and each student specializes in one discipline: Trapeze, Aerial Hoop, Straps, Handstands, Silks, Hand-to-Hand, Chinese Pole, Handstands, Juggling, or Acrodance. As part of the training program, masterclasses are held annually on topics such as nutrition, injury prevention, rigging (safety in aerial circus elements), anatomy, and more. Additionally, we regularly offer weekend and holiday intensives with professionals from various circus disciplines, both nationally and internationally.
  • Pre-Professional Program: a 1-year course (part-time) designed for students who wish to prepare for the Professional Training Program or who do not have the time to commit to full-time training. The schedule is Monday to Friday, with 12-15 hours per week, and the course lasts for 8 months.
  • Regular Courses: Lifelong learning courses
  • Intensive Courses and Masterclasses: For professionals and beginners.
  • Retreats, conventions, and professional networking events.
  • Occasionally we rent out our facilities for Circus activities and events.

As part of the full-time and part-time programs, CREAT offers the experience of participating in different types of creative processes, such as collective creations, act development, or small group projects.  Additionally, there are many opportunities to showcase work-in-progress or perform an act in cabarets and various events. In the second year, students create a professional production that participates in dierent festivals as part of the final exit project program.

After finishing the second year, CREAT offers the opportunity to apply for the Annual Production Program. This is an open call for former students to develop a project as an emerging artist company. The show will be created during various residencies throughout the following school year, and the group will receive support from a creative and production team throughout the process, addressing their dierent needs, culminating in a final premiere at various Valencian circus festivals.
