The Cirkusgymnasiet is a 3-year program within the Swedish school system.
Created in 2000, it is a collaboration between Cirkus Cirkör (CC) and St. Botvids upper secondary school. St. Botvids is responsible for the academic education while CC manages the circus education. The students train side by side with professional circus artists, most of which are graduates of FEDEC schools and are part of their international staff.
The circus curriculum is around 10 hours per week, courses range from discipline training, physical preparation, dance, improvisational techniques, theatre, clowning and artistic/creation exercises.
National and international collaborations as well as pedagogical excursions are part of the program such as exchanges with other FEDEC schools, attending performances, internships with professional companies. They have established a relationship with DOCH, Sweden’s Higher education in circus.
Their aim is to introduce young adults to the circus arts, to the physical and mental training and to welcome them in an artistic world where they can discover themselves and feel empowered, they prepare their students for higher education, whether they continue in the performing arts or make.
The program is part of the “Upper secondary school – National programs” Arts program (ES).
